I love when women.
Digital collage series recontextualizing iconic women from classical-style paintings.
Each painting is paired with a four-letter word written in a hand-lettered Gothic script.
Further experimentation involved applying the collages to various objects, challenging traditional notions of where art belongs.
Cool Girl
‘Girl with the Pearl Earring’, Johannes Vermeer (1665)
Lost Venus
‘Birth of Venus’, Sandro Botticelli (1480s)
King Louise
‘Portrait of Louise de Kéroualle’, Peter Lely (1671–1674)
Love Woman
‘Portrait of a Young Woman’, unknown (1700–1800)
An interesting challenge shaped by arbitrary parameters.
I was able to create a unique composition that offered a new take on a timeless work of art. The 4 letter word though proved to provide a creative challenge that led to interesting and unexpected words, also felt like an arbitrary parameter that was chosen only because of the spacial limitations of the design.
